We cannot locally form alliances with USR, and in Bucharest form a government together. Liberals should abandon Nicușor Dan, if they want to be in coalition with PSD after 2024

Present at the county conference of the PSD Vaslui county organization, the president of the social democrats, Marcel Ciolacu, told the liberals that they must decide if they want to continue the current coalition, warning them, at the same time, that they cannot claim to enter the government alongside the PSD, while at the local level alliances are made with the USR.

Ciolacu expressly indicated the situation of the mayor of the Capital, Nicușor Dan, whose candidacy, in the 2020 elections, was supported by PNL and URS. Considering that the social democrat Gabriela Firea has already announced that she is willing to enter the race for Bucharest City Hall again, in the 2024 elections, Ciolacu suggested to the liberals that it would be appropriate to abandon Nicușor Dan.

“I think that the gentlemen from the PNL with whom we form the governing coalition should decide. We cannot locally form coalitions with USR and support such a mayor, and in Bucharest form a coalition and a government together. We have to stop with this double political aspect, both local and central, and we want things to work evenly between us. The same thing happens at the Capital City Hall. Our partners must assume. Either he assumes Mr. Nicusor Dan, who was the candidate supported by PNL and the current majority with USR, or he tries to maintain a coalition with us, which worked. I believe that, together with my colleagues, I made the right decision to form this coalition, at least until 2024”, said Marcel Ciolacu.

The social democrat also added that if the liberals respect their grievances and stop collaborating with the USR, the coalition will be able to function even after 2024.

“I, honestly, and now I am sending it to our partners, believe that we can continue this coalition format from 2024, but we have to decide – do we want to block the projects of the mayor of Vaslui, with USR? We don’t want to take on the projects with USR from Bucharest or Clotilde Armand or we want to form a coalition in the true sense both locally and centrally in order to respond to the expectations of Romanians at this moment and to respond to the challenges that not only Romania is going through, the whole Europe, with a security crisis very close to us, with an energy crisis. All this coming after a pandemic crisis. We have to see, if we want to have a country project in the future, then we have to go out in front of the Romanians and assume this”, said the PSD leader, quoted by news.ro
