“We can pass the license but not go to driving school”, the paradox of confinement

Unlike the first confinement, candidates for a driving license will be able to pass their exam in the coming weeks. But driving lessons are prohibited, which is denounced by the managers of driving schools gathered on November 3, 2020, in Saint-Priest (Rhône)

Driving school instructors gathered at the Saint-Priest (Rhône) examination center to request that driving lessons be maintained with their students. The difficulty, from this week, will be to pass the license (which is allowed), while it is impossible to take driving lessons because it is prohibited during confinement.

“We are forbidden to do our job” denounces Sophie Karsenty, president of the CNPA road education of the Rhône. “We do not understand the government’s measures. We are two in the cars during the lessons and it is forbidden. But there are three of us during the exams and that’s allowed. ”

Indeed, it is written in black and white on the website of the Ministry of the Interior: “Driving schools will not be able to provide driving lessons or codes during the period of face-to-face confinement. Driving teachers will nevertheless be allowed to accompany those of their students for whom an examination date has been set before the ‘Announcement of containment. Distance code courses are permitted. “

The ministry relays several online learning tools to get up to speed during containment, through online educational tests and a YouTube channel for students in the process of learning, My driving school at home.

But the agencies warn: for lack of sufficient aid, some may be forced to close. A hearing is scheduled in the Prefecture to try to find a compromise. The professionals gathered this morning at the Saint-Priest examination center warn: they say they are ready to block the tests, if no reduction in health measures for their profession is announced.
