We can demand from the Murcia City Council and the Regional Government help for the taxi

The secretary of Civil Society, Luigi Carinci, and the spokesman in the capital city council, Ginés Ruiz, have shown their support for the demands of the sector and have criticized that from the municipal administration.

“It is turning its back on a sector that has always stood up in the most difficult moments”

Luigi Carinci, secretary of Civil Society of Podemos Region of Murcia and the spokesperson of Podemos in the City Council of the capital, Ginés Ruiz, have visited the headquarters of Radio Taxi Murcia to learn about the situation in which the sector and the main demands of those who work in the provision of this service.

Carinci has shown the support of Podemos to the demands of the taxi drivers and has demanded measures from the Regional Government and the Murcia City Council.

“The immediate implementation of economic support measures to pay for the costs of medical protection equipment as a result of the pandemic situation.”

In addition, they have demanded that the Murcia City Council give training to the local police staff to control Transport Vehicles with Driver (VTC), since at the moment the lack of control over them is absolute.

At the same time, Carinci has requested that the Autonomous Community “show its explicit support for the taxi sector and develop the regulations and the sanctioning regime of the VTC.”

For his part, the spokesperson for Podemos in the Murcia City Council, Ginés Ruiz, recalled that we are facing a sector that has shown its commitment to society during confinement, as could be seen when they transported health personnel for free or took to the most vulnerable households the solidarity meals that they prepared from associations and food banks.

“We demand that the City Council not turn its back on a sector that has always stood up in the most difficult moments.”

Likewise, he has cited as an example of the institutional neglect experienced by the service that the taxi drivers themselves have had to “pay for the mandatory screens out of their own pockets in order to carry out their work in the current context of pandemic.”

The municipal spokesperson for Podemos in the town hall has compared this situation with that experienced in other municipalities in which “the public transport sector has been financially helped to adapt to this new situation”, while the Murcia City Council ” has not yet launched a single helpline for taxi workers. ‘
