In 68 years on the throne, apart from her traditional television message on Christmas Day, the Queen had only spoken to her people three times in an extraordinary television speech. Queen is now speaking via video message regarding the current corona virus situation in Great Britain. The speech was made at Windsor Castle, where the 93-year-old monarch lives with her husband Prince Philip. It gives hope to the British and assures “we will see each other again.” The 93-year-old calls on the population to fight the virus together. “I hope that in the coming years everyone can be proud of how they dealt with this challenge.”, said the Queen in her speech on Sunday evening.
Aside from the traditional Christmas speeches, it’s only the fourth time that the Queen addresses the public with such a speech. She previously did this when her mother died, Princess Diana was buried, and during the Gulf War.
47,000 coronavirus infections in the UK
The Department of Health in London announced an increase in the number of deaths in Great Britain by 621 to 4934 and gave the number of confirmed infections with 47,806. Heir to the throne too Prince Charles had been infected, has now survived the Covid 19 disease.
