It will remain possible to see the northern lights in the Netherlands in the coming evenings. The chance is greatest in clear winter weather between 10:30 p.m. and midnight.
Especially on the north coast of our country there is the possibility to spot the rare light. There is a lot of solar activity until March 1. According to the KNMI, a lot of sun can ensure that we can see the northern lights in the Netherlands.
But it probably won’t be as bright as Sunday evening. The northern lights were then visible in various places in the Netherlands. The natural phenomenon was observed from the Wadden Islands to the south and on the west coast.
The auroras are created when charged particles from the sun collide with particles high in our atmosphere at speeds of hundreds of kilometers per second. Because of these collisions, the particles contain a lot of energy. To bring that level back down, the particles emit energy in the form of light. That’s the tested light we see.
