“We can also go 30 km / h, we don’t!” – The Daily Standard

At Op1, corona celebrity Maurice de Hond once again explained why, as far as he is concerned, we should get rid of this one and a half meter society as quickly as possible.

He was allowed on TV again: Maurice de Hond. The pollster who nowadays completes his days researching corona, the causes of the virus and what can be done about it. The established order, to which lung specialist Hans in ‘t Veen also belongs, swears by the one and a half meter society. Everyone has to stay 150 cm from others, and then we can keep the virus under control, is the thought.

But it does pay a huge price, explains Maurice de Hond. In his view, the 1.5 meter only helps against contamination via ‘large droplets’, which can indeed only travel limited in distance. De Hond thinks that almost all infections are caused by aerosols: tiny virus particles that remain in the air for much longer. When ventilation is involved, one corona infected person can make dozens of others sick. A distance of a meter and a half has hardly any added value for the main distribution method, argues De Hond.

At Op1, the social geographer was allowed to explain that vision again. Doctor In ‘t Veen believes that we should maintain all measures “as long as the leak is not over”. De Hond explains why in his view is nonsense:

“It’s not just about public health and a meter and a half: it’s also about the rest of society. For example, we have about 650 deaths annually in traffic, and we are driving at 100 km / h. If we go 30 km / h, we have 300 fewer deaths. But we don’t, because we want to drive 100 km / h. The price of that one and a half meter society is quite high. ”

Perhaps something, so, for RIVM, OMT and Mark Rutte to think about …
