The Saint-Lary resort welcomed four great women who have marked the history of French skiing for a very special day.
Isabelle Mir, Annie Famose, Florence Steurer and Marielle Goitschel have carried the colors of French skiing high in the many races in which they have competed. If all four were present yesterday morning in Saint-Lary, it was above all in memory of the 1968 Olympics for which they trained in the locality, as recalled by the local of the stadium, Isabelle Mir: «In November 1967, all the French team trained here because it was the only place where there was snow. Even the “One” of the Paris Match of the time had honored the champions. It is in front of this photo that they posed, not far from the brand new Espiaube gondola which follows the route of the one used by the Grenoble 68 dream team for their training in preparation for the Olympic Games, 55 years ago. .
Team spirit is still very much present after all these years among these exceptional skiers who made the heyday of French skiing, as the mayor of Saint Lary, André Mir said: “It is extraordinary that we can enjoy the presence of these great women who have marked the history of French skiing, especially in terms of group performance, I truly believe that we will never experience it again”.
“A unique landscape”
It was aboard this beautiful gondola, specially flocked in the image of this team that won several gold medals, that the four stars of the day took their seats to disembark, 6 minutes later, at the Pic de Tourette, located at 2,320 meters above sea level. sea level and strike a pose, more than half a century later together, with the same smile. Also present were the mayor of Vignec, Jean-Michel Isoart, Akim Boufaid, director of the Saint-Lary resort, Philippe Jugie and Manuel Bernia for the tourist component.
At the top and in the sun, it was around a small aperitif that the participants in this fun pilgrimage recalled the glorious hours of French skiing in front of a Marielle Goitschel in contemplation in front of the snow-covered slopes: “It is a unique panorama with such a steep mountain , does not exist elsewhere, there would be a nice giant to be made here”.
Isabelle Mir, for her part, slyly launched the topic of the story up to La Mongie before expressing her emotion at finding herself in this precise place with her three friends: “It’s true, it’s a great emotion above all that my friends are here today This is where we built our medals obtained in Grenoble but also all the subsequent ones”.
An opportunity also to admire this new cable car that the public will be able to enjoy starting this Wednesday as the snow has finally decided to descend on the peaks with the prospect of a wider opening of the Saint-Lary ski area.
A day that was also part of the Fesytiflocon, the traditional weekend reserved for welcoming the new owners of the resort.
