We both do it with the confidence that there are many women and many hardworking and honest men in Romania and in the Romanian diaspora with whom the national and European dignity of this country can be rebuilt.

Physicist Cristian Presură and professor Ciprian Mihali, from the philosophy department of Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, join the Reper party, founded by Dacian Cioloș.

They announced on Facebook that they are joining the party, “with the conviction that many things learned and lived by us can now be put at the service of a collective action, in which we engage with hope and courage. We both do it with the confidence that there are many women and many hardworking and honest men in Romania and in the Romanian diaspora with whom the national and European dignity of this country can be rebuilt ”

Full post by physicist Cristian Presură:

I am one of the over 5 million Romanian emigrants located beyond the physical borders of the country, but not beyond the spiritual ones. I stayed connected with it, through this scientific wonder called the internet and so I was able to contribute through my passion to the popularization of science. I see science as a gift and a responsibility given to man. I live in the Netherlands and I appreciate this wonderful invention called the bicycle. There are no physical laws that say that in Romania you can’t build wide bike lanes, separated by car streets, or cities full of parks. As any Romanian emigrant in Western Europe knows, it is not something that the German has built and he cannot build. Science also provides us with the tools to create green cities, fast trains and modern hospitals. It is up to us to create living communities that combine knowledge for science with love for those close to us.

We decided together to join the REPER project, with the conviction that many things learned and lived by us can now be put at the service of a collective action, in which we engage with hope and courage.

We both do it with the confidence that there are many women and many hardworking and honest men in Romania and in the Romanian diaspora with whom the national and European dignity of this country can be rebuilt. That this country can find its right path if it finds the right people to serve it. But also that we are not lost forever because of corruption and plagiarism, public policy for private interest groups or justice captured by predators and beneficiaries of privileges. That we will not have to find excuses all the time for a burning hospital, for a failing school, for a highway that is not being built. That we will not always be the leaders of Europe in the darkest statistics of poverty, functional illiteracy or underage mothers.

We do not delude ourselves and do not believe in miracles, but we are not fatalists to consider that we would be condemned as a country to backwardness and perpetual fraud. We believe in integrity and collective intelligence, in the ability of people to do good things together. And just as any field is sown by planting a bean, then another bean, so we believe that we can participate together with each other, each with our skills, to grow a Romania that our children should not be ashamed of. So let’s gather our strength and make ourselves the force that changes this country.
