The artificial intelligence ChatGPT of the company OpenAI, which was co-founded by Elon Musk, has become a phenomenon in communication in recent weeks. You can communicate with her, among other things, in Czech and English and discuss various topics. The editors of Aktuálně.cz tried to ask artificial intelligence a few questions from the world of cars with the aim of finding out if it is at least a little “car guy”.

We started the conversation with artificial intelligence with a rather banal question: Who and when invented the first automobile?
ChatGPT did not hesitate in a relatively long answer: “The first automobile was invented by several people independently and in different countries in
during the 19th century. (…) In 1885, Karl Benz built the first practical car powered by an internal combustion engine, and this is often considered the birth of the modern car.” Let’s add that Benz patented the first car at the end of January 1886.
“Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot developed the first steam vehicle in 1769, which is often referred to as the world’s first automobile, but this design was not practical and was only used for experimental purposes,” adds the artificial intelligence. Here, it is necessary to state that Cugnot built a model of a steam tricycle in 1769, and two functional prototypes were created in the following years, but the steam vehicle never passed this stage.
