We are reaping the benefits of our neglect, readers are writing about Russia’s aggressiveness

The Editors List of Messages has been selected by Readers’ forums the most interesting opinions from the discussion at commentsin which Pavel Novotný states that not only Russia itself is ill, but also its inhabitants, most of whom support the attack on Ukraine, but also possible aggression towards other countries.

Petr Hrubeš: The rhetoric of the Russian dictator reminds me of the rhetoric of another who considered it necessary to dehumanize and exclude some ethnic groups from society. I think most people know the name. We are reaping the fruits of our insensitivity and neglect.

Adam Bartas: Germany’s reform had to be preceded by war, complete military surrender and Nuremberg trials with a broader leadership, the internment of a large part of the army in captivity. At the same time, German denazification was only very general and lazy (unlike the myths of complete cleansing from the Nazis) and the deviation from the authoritarian course was mediated mainly by economic miracle and growth, returning to the natural Western cultural circle. Which of the following is possible in the RF now? Full military defeat in a country with millions of reservists and nuclear weapons, occupation of a country as large as a continent, economic growth in a country with an economy the size of Italy and the standard of living in Bulgaria, cultural integration into Europe in a country that has never undergone reform, renaissance or enlightenment indoctrinated for centuries that the West wants to rob her of something?

Tomáš Kadečka: I will just add that even in our country in the Czech Republic, which is completely incomprehensible to me, there will be a group of people who downplay or even approve of Russia’s attack on Ukraine. There are still plenty of those who would welcome the Red Fascists from Russia with open arms and immediately engage in the terror that would occur immediately. It’s unbelievable, crazy and incomprehensible, but unfortunately it is an undeniable fact.

Jiří Škodák: What Russia, led by Putin, is doing is imperialism and revanchism, which is fueled by Russian nationalism, which refers to Pan-Slavism, as can be seen in Russia’s support for Serbia, which played a major role in World War I since World War II. the break-up of Yugoslavia. Well, hey Slavs!

Jan Rožmitálský: Even the Russian command already knows that it will not defeat Ukraine. They will really focus on making a lasting profit in the area around the Sea of Azov, but I do not think they will either. Because of logistics he just can’t. You can’t destroy the land you want to occupy for a long time, the generals already knew in the 16th century that there would be a so-called deconsumption, when neither the locals nor the occupiers would live there. In addition, the resistance is growing. If anyone thinks that Russia can supply three or four million inhabitants of the occupied territory, then sorry, but it is naive, especially with those sanctions. And if he doesn’t supply them, then what? Famine like a hundred years ago?

Jan Masek: If we do not want to go into direct military confrontation with Russia, its economy must collapse so that it does not have the means to finance the war machine. Yes, it will also mean lowering the living standards of all other European countries, but it is still less evil than letting the world be destroyed by a nuclear disaster. However, in the future, the democratic world must be very careful about what Russia has to offer and, above all, keep it out of modern technology, because only by a significant technological superiority can we keep this nation within its borders.

Vladimir Masak: Russians develop real or subconscious caution or outright hatred towards their nationality. Hungarians, Czechs, Slovaks and especially Poles, now Ukrainians and in fact the whole world. No need to write why. In 20 years, a Russian family will go to Bali, for example. The hotelier will not give them a hand and will want to pay in advance and will be guarded throughout the stay. Regardless, they will not be guilty of assault and atrocities in Ukraine.
