Eras change, technologies develop, machines change; the Duna-Dráva Cement Kft. (DDC) plant, a Váci Cement Factory however, for six decades now, it has been non-stop producing and supplying its partners with essential raw materials for the construction industry. The factory manager of the Váci Cement Factory, Árpád Mocsai, told about the events of the anniversary year.
60 years is a long time, worthy of recognition even in the life of a factory. Do they still keep the memories of the decades?
We are proud of all the achievements and successes of the factory so far, and if there were mistakes, we try to learn from them. Fortunately, we still have many employees who have been working here for decades, so it is easy to maintain traditions. Because without a past, there is no successful future.
How did the factory celebrate this anniversary?
At the Imre Madách Cultural Center in Vác, we created an interactive exhibition where we gave an insight into the past, present and future of the factory, the technologies used, and those interested could learn more about the materials we use and produce. The exhibition could be visited almost all year round, from spring to autumn. This also shows that the factory is a defining player and an important pillar not only for the workers here, but also for the entire settlement and the region.
The changes and developments of the past years were very spectacular in the life of the factory. Was this also presented to the public?
The Váci Cement Factory 60 years ago started operating, and we have been open and producing continuously since then. What’s more, we have now opened our factory doors to everyone. Although we know the signs: “It is forbidden to enter the factory area for strangers!”, we organized the open day in connection with the anniversary with great success. Thus, those who were even more interested in our company and our activities could get to know the cement production process up close in addition to the exhibition. Since we have no secrets and are proud of our developments, world-class operations and environmental achievements, we welcome anyone to the event. However, we did not expect such a success. Almost 700 people gained an insight into the life of our plant, where after the factory and mine visit, the guests were treated to a refreshing and tasty horn cake, and the younger ones were treated to exciting games. I am particularly pleased that many children participated in the event. In view of the huge interest, I believe that the gates of the factory will be open to the public next year as well.
What other programs does the Váci Cement Factory implement in the spirit of social responsibility?
We are proud that many of our programs are implemented in talent management and environmental education. A good example of this is 7. Green Alternative Competition, which was hosted by Váci Gyár this May. Here, enterprising high school teams tested their skills and got to know the factory. In addition to gaining environmentally conscious knowledge, this is a real community-building event for young people.
