– We are not spoiled – VG

GÅLÅ (VG) For over a year they have been playing for empty houses. Now the Peer Gynt actors are looking forward to this year’s performance. Even with only half as many in the rows of benches as there usually are.

Published:

– Now I have for over a year played with twelve in the hall just to keep the performances warm, so this will be big. We are not spoiled, says Pål Christian Eggen who is Peer Gynt also this year to VG.

– Pure luxury. director Marit Marit Moum Aune shoots in.

She mostly sees only opportunities in the limitations that the pandemic and the corona situation place on this year’s Peer Gynt performance.

DICE RUN FIVE: – The spectacular new staging of “Peer Gynt” at Gålåvannet is an artistic victory for everyone involved, wrote VG’s reviewer Photo: Bård Gundersen

– There will be some changes in the performance, something will be tightened and sharpened. Admittedly, Mads Moen can not throw the bridal bouquet into the arena as he did two years ago. But there are a bunch of actors here who are very hungry now. It will be a party from hour to hour, says Moum Aune and continues:

– At the same time, this time has given us a useful reminder that it is the audience we are present for. An audience that we have been without for almost a year and a half now.

QUICK TEST TENT: Producer Vivian Haverstadløkken outside the tent where staff, actors and volunteers are tested every three days during this year’s Peer Gynt. Photo: Jørn Pettersen / VG

The actors are the same except for Lena Kristin Ellingsen who is both the green-clad, Ingrid – and not least she will sing Solveig’s song.

When VG reviewed the essentially same Peer Gynt performance that was staged this year two years ago, VG’s reviewer thought that it stood for roll five.

– The spectacular new production of “Peer Gynt” by Gålåvannet is an artistic victory for everyone involved, was the conclusion.

There is no small logistics required for all the pieces to fall into place for Peer Gynt at Gålå again this year. Everything is basically about infection control.

– We all tested on the first day of testing. Actors, staff, volunteers. That’s 85 in total. Then we quickly test everyone who is on their way to tests every three days with the exception of those who are fully vaccinated. That is around 40 pieces. The fear is getting infected among the actors. Then we have to cancel performances, says producer Vivian Haverstadløkken to VG.

Last year, the organizer had to cancel all the sold-out performances at Gålå. The solution this year is several, but half-full performances – and a good distance between the audience. In practice, this means at least one meter all roads between everyone sitting in the rows of benches. With an increase from 7 to twelve performances, it will premiere already on Friday 23 July.

RED NUMBERS: General manager May Brit Støve in Peer Gynt does not expect a profit this year. – The most important thing is continuity, she says. Photo: Jørn Pettersen / VG

– There will be no profit from this. Only red numbers, but the most important thing is continuity and that it will be Peer Gynt this year, says general manager May Brit Støve in Peer Gynt to VG.

She says that the turnover for Peer Gynt in 2019 was 26 million kroner. Without the Peer Gynt performance last year, sales naturally fell dramatically.

– Luckily we received a little over two million kroner in corona support and it was important for us to make it, says Støve.

The organizer had put himself in the saddle to find the best possible replacements last year: Among other things, they could offer something completely new Peer Gynt hologram. Thanks to new technology, the organizer promises that it will be possible to experience Peer Gynt and Mor Åse at the water level at Gålåvatnet.
