“We are not ready to take the tests, continuous assessment is a necessity” Lisa, BTS student

Many BTS students ask to take their exams in continuous assessment. They believe that the health crisis did not allow them to properly prepare for the tests. Worried about their future, they say they are at their wit’s end. A petition has collected over 65,000 signatures. Testimonials

We had two very difficult years between confinement and distance learning. Today, I find myself with gaps in certain subjects because of the many distance learning courses that do not allow me to assimilate a complex course, programs which have certainly been completed but too quickly to be able to be ready for our tests in May.

Currently in the 2nd year of BTS Commerce International in a Marseille high school, Matteo is worried about his future. He also says he does not understand the logic of the government which maintains the tests in an important context of covid cases, he adds: “ is the government going to leave 30 students for 4 hours in the same room? … Currently I must therefore put myself in danger and endanger my whole family in order to be able to ensure my future by passing these ordeals. Continuous monitoring would be much fairer and in accordance with sanitary conditions “

Emma, also in the 2 nd year of BTS Support in Managerial Action, in the same establishment is also stressed at the approach of the tests because she does not feel completely prepared.

As part of my BTS I had to do a 14 week internship abroad, but it was canceled following the health crisis, I finally found another internship in the region but only 7 weeks yet it had to carry out the same workload.

She also explains that the video lessons are difficult because of a bad internet connection, that remote work is complicated, especially for corrections, for her, writing under these conditions is inadmissible.

Same reaction for this other student in BTS management of the SME in another high school in the southern districts of Marseille. Fridosse wishes to take his BTS in continuous assessment, here is his testimony:

The first confinement greatly impacted my motivation, I dropped out and I had a lot of trouble getting back to my classes. In my class 5 students dropped out and I almost did the same.

To finish Fridosse points out that the students of last year had the possibility to take their BTS in continuous assessment, she does not see why it could not be done also this year when the situation is similar.

Lisa, she follows a work-study training, student in BTS Opticien Lunetier, her establishment is in Nîmes and her company in Salon-de-Provence. On her facebook account she testifies to her situation and signs her declaration with these few words: “Lisa, a student at the end of her rope”

Regarding my exam, the tests in themselves do not allow barrier gestures … we opticians, must pass an eye test. For this, people from outside are invited. We are therefore going to have to reach people we do not know … there is also a sales test, again with external people. We will have to touch them to adjust the frame … we have no other way of doing it is impossible

Lisa adds that as part of her work-study program, she is also in permanent contact with clients, for her it is essential training for her training. “positive or not on the day of the exam, I will go anyway, I cannot afford a failure” she concludes

Marion and Laura also in BTS Opticien Lunetier in Marseille, are not in the same school as Lisa but share the same claim “We demand continuous monitoring so that we are not victims of the current situation. Lisa has the same diploma as us. Her school has allowed her face-to-face lessons. For our part, we are at a distance … It’s unfair the trials will be the same and we have not been prepared in the same way.

In dietetics BTS with the Distance Learning Center, Sabrina who lives in Marseille highlights another problem “ Because of the health crisis, most of us are in a terrible psychological and physical state. Last year, I had to overcome a very painful bereavement and I have since been morally at an end … so the implementation of the continuous assessment would take enormous weight and anxieties off us … and we would restore confidence in our professional future.

For all these reasons, BTS students mobilized on social networks, the petition that they put online to demand continuous monitoring has already collected more than 65,000 signatures. The written tests start on May 10.
