“We are not in a focus like yours”

Alvise Pérez, the far-right agitating MEP, is in the eye of the storm after the revelation of recordings that suggest an illegal financing scheme during his electoral campaign. According to a report from ‘eldiario.es’, the MEP, who in June had expressed his desire to separate the economy from the state and encourage the use of cryptocurrencies, now faces accusations of having received 100,000 euros in cash from a businessman in exchange of favorable legislative promises.

In a recent conversation, Pérez made clear his interest in promoting laws that benefit the use of Bitcoin, claiming that this would grant citizens greater financial freedom from state control. “We want to do certain things so that people begin to understand certain technologies that the state is not interested in people knowing about,” he said in his previous speech.

The businessman in question, Álvaro Romillo, founder of a financial club, has admitted to having sponsored Pérez and has presented evidence to the Prosecutor’s Office indicating that since March, Pérez had requested his help to raise funds not controlled by the Court of Accounts. The recordings reveal Pérez’s strategy to guarantee his influence in a future government with Feijóo and Abascal, promising to promote legislation that aligns with the interests of his financiers.

Romillo, feeling increasingly uncomfortable with media scrutiny, expressed concern about the implications of his association with Pérez. “We are not in a focus like yours because we are not in politics, nor are we harming people who have power,” he said, highlighting his fear of the exposure that his relationship with the MEP could bring. Three days after that conversation, Romillo’s club closed after seeing its accounts blocked.
