The spike in COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is still not under control. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Muhadjir Effendy even called the current state of the Corona pandemic a military emergency.
“In fact, the current government, although not in declare We are in a state of martial law. So if the emergency measures are civil order, civil emergency, military emergency, war emergency, now it’s military emergency,” said Muhadjir when visiting the UGM University Club Hotel which was used as a shelter for Corona patients, in Sleman, Friday (16/9/2021). ).
Muhadjir said that Indonesia was currently at war with the enemy, the invisible COVID-19 virus.
“Why? Because we are dealing with an invisible enemy and this invisible enemy in the battle does not use the rules of the law of war. Because everyone is considered a combatant by COVID-19,” he explained.
The war, said Muhadjir, is becoming more and more real. Previously, he did not think that pregnant women and children would become victims of the ferocity of Corona. However, in fact today many pregnant women and children are victims.
“In the past we thought that pregnant people, children could not be targeted. Now many children and pregnant women have become victims of death which have started to increase. This means that this is an asymmetrical war against COVID-19,” he said.
According to him, the current condition cannot be handled in the usual way. Therefore, said Muhadjir, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has started deploying the TNI-Polri in handling COVID-19 cases.
“Therefore, the President has started playing the role of the TNI and Polri because of our considerations that this cannot be handled normally, this is truly martial law, only the enemy is not conventional military enemies, but the invisible troops,” he said.
Therefore, Muhadjir reminded the public to be more aware and not negligent in implementing health protocol.
“Now that’s why we encourage people to be more aware. At least wear a mask and the mask must be doubled because this is an increasingly fierce threat level,” he concluded
