Parapowerlifting medallist Herbert Aceituno has left for Spain to begin training for his third Paralympic Games, which will be held between 28 August and 8 September in France, where there are high expectations that the athlete will be able to win another medal.

The 17th edition of the Paralympic Games will offer 12 days of intense competition and opportunities in sport for athletes with special abilities, which in many cases becomes an inspiration.

A total of 4,400 Paralympic athletes will soon meet in the City of Lights. “We are going with the mentality that if it can be achieved and we have faith in God that we will have a good result. We have worked for four years to complete this Paralympic dream in the best way. All the rivals are strong and the first objective is to score. We are going to do everything possible to get a good result. Everyone wants to be on the podium, but one proposes and God disposes. We are going to do the impossible to be on the podium,” said the medalist.

Aceituno will enter the competition as the second in the World Ranking in the +59 kg category. The 17th edition represents the athlete’s third consecutive occasion after Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 when he won the historic bronze medal for El Salvador.

Regarding the possibility of the athlete having a place on the podium, Aceituno said: “There is no need to think of yourself as a favorite or put that pressure on yourself, everyone wants to win a medal and we are going to do everything humanly possible and as much as God allows us to do to bring new joy to the country.”

Looking ahead to the competition, the Paralympic athlete recalled all the effort and sacrifice, as well as the people who have supported him in one way or another. He also said that his first Games were a “thrill,” but that this year’s Games are “even more exciting.”

Aceituno has an impressive number of medals, including two Parapan American gold medals and one bronze, the latter being the most important medal for the country at the Paralympic and Olympic level. In addition, she won the first Parapan American gold medal for the country in Lima 2019, in the -65kg category, and some of the most recent are the bronze and gold medals at the Parapowerlifting World Cup.
