Valenciennes (France) – Coach Jindřich Trpišovský is convinced that in order to succeed in the final 4th preliminary round of the Champions League against Lille, the coach Jindřich Trpišovský needs to control the opponent in the last third of the field and not allow him to make offensive maneuvers. According to the forty-eight-year-old coach, a complex team awaits Prague in the fight for the main stage of the prestigious competition, the position of the players prepared him for Real Madrid. He said this in a press conference before Tuesday’s opening match away.

“First of all, we have to cope with their game in the attacking half in general, but especially in the last third. You don’t come across that in the Czech league. Their style is based on a big combination in the midfield and in the wing areas, where they are strongest in the moment when they get into an attacking position. It’s an atypical style, if I were to compare it remotely, a bit to Real Madrid. Those are the things we’re preparing for,” he quoted club website Trpišovský from the press conference.

“We definitely want to rely on the quality in defense that we have had so far (in the season). In such a match, we also need to be quality in the combination game and keep on the ball so that we are not under such pressure. Another thing is the standard situations in which “Lille is very strong. It is simply a complex team,” added the coach of the Czech vice-champion.

Lille, like in the 3rd preliminary round against Fenerbahce Istanbul, will play in the asylum in Valenciennes, its stadium not yet ready after recently hosting the Olympic Games. “I would much rather see the Lille stadium, I’ve never been there. But this stand is also great, especially the lawn looks fantastic. It reminds us a bit of Eden with its architectural design. It’s a shame that it doesn’t have the same capacity as the one in Lille, and the atmosphere probably won’t be as much boisterous. But we’re still looking forward to it,” said Trpišovský.

His men have the home advantage of the second leg in Eden in a week’s time. “When you play a doubleheader against a quality team, you need to be successful and quality throughout both games. It is not enough for you to play well in just one duel. After the game against Union (Saint-Gilloise), we know that we will have to perform well in both meetings and have a good result,” Trpišovský said.

“We must not let Lille into offensive maneuvers in which they are very strong. We need to take the first step for that to have a good starting position next week which would be favorable for us. The atmosphere will impress you, you know you have only one step left, ” remarked Trpišovský, who can advance to the main stage of the Champions League with Slavia for the second time. Overall, Slavia is aiming for the third participation in the regular part of the competition.

On the weekend between the opening match and the second leg, the Prague team will not play the league match in Mladá Boleslav, which the opponent had postponed due to Thursday’s match of the 4th preliminary round of the Conference League. “We wanted to play with Boleslav. We didn’t want to have a break of eight days, from this point of view it’s more of an inconvenience for us and an advantage for the opponent,” said Trpišovský.
