– We are eager for revenge – VG

READY FOR THE RUSSIANS: Henny Reistad is looking forward to the World Cup quarter-finals after a very difficult experience against the Russians in the Olympics.

CASTELLÓN (VG) (Netherlands-Norway 34–37) The Olympic semi-final ended in tears and despair for Henny Reistad (22). Now she wants revenge in the World Cup quarter-final against Russia on Wednesday.

– We are eager for revenge and absolutely ready to give everything against Russia, Reistad says to VG. She was in pain after four shots and a weak match when Norway on August 6 lost 26-27 to the Russians.

– We are incredibly eager for revenge, Veronica Kristiansen follows up after experiencing two lost Olympic semi-finals for the girls from the world’s largest country.

On Monday night, Norway secured a place in the quarterfinals after turning the group final against the Netherlands, from being under 5-11, to winning 37-34. Central to that was Henny Reistad. The 22-year-old started on the bench, but came in after Norway’s bad start and took the lead with nine goals on the way to group victory.

DESPAIR: Sanna Solberg-Isaksen, Kristine Breistøl and Henny Reistad after the semifinal defeat for Russia in the Olympics.

Reistad was happy after delivering his perhaps best match in the championship for Norway.

– This means a lot to me. It does the same for the others. It has been difficult to get a good feeling in the matches we have played against slightly worse opposition, says Reistad who in comparison has scored 16 goals in the first five World Cup matches.

– There have been some good matches in championships before, but it has not been so much me, she describes.

– I got the right distance to the defense and got an overview. Then it was time for the duels and we know that we are dueling players. When we also got shot over them, it opened more rooms, Norway’s “box opener” thinks after a terrible start after the battle of destiny.

The World Cup quarter-finals in Granollers north of Barcelona open with Denmark-Brazil and Spain-Germany on Tuesday. Then Norway-Russia and France-Sweden play the next day.

– It is a slightly different Russian team, but a very good one. They have a bunch of good players and there are a lot of players to prepare for. They rotate a lot and play very fast handball, says Nora Mørk after eight goals against the Netherlands.

The Russian Handball Federation, as the team is referred to as in the World Cup, clearly lost 33-28 to Olympic winner France on Monday. The Russians have also played a draw against Slovenia in the World Cup. The team is missing Anna Vjakhireva and several of her biggest stars from the silver team in the Olympics.

They have lost 10 of 14 players. Ljudmila Bodnijeva – with two World Cup golds as a player – has taken over as national team manager. Her CSKA Moscow-dominated team got a boost when they beat Norway in Bergen before the World Cup.

– They were good in the Intersport Cup and have been good here. It will be a tough match. But we will enjoy this victory and then focus on Russia. We are really looking forward to that, says Henny Reistad.

In addition to the Olympics, Russia also beat Norway in the World Cup 2019. Norway has not beaten the Russians since the World Cup quarterfinals four years ago. The wild 34-17 victory in Magdeburg is one of the handball girls’ best matches ever.

– It is a little different to face Russia in other championships than the Olympics, because then it is a completely different team, says Nora Mørk.

Seven-goal scorer against the Netherlands, Camilla Herrem, follows her up.

Russia is a great team. They have shooters and strong players – a bit of everything really. I think they are just getting better and better, but we are ready. Now we’re going to win every game. We will only give the ban gas, without a doubt, says Herrem.
