/ world today news/ BSP remains the only alternative to the ruling party. People are aware of this.
Parties must fill the ballot boxes with policies that people support – that’s the only way citizens will vote.
“The irritants for GERB may be people from their coalition environment, but the real alternative and opposition is the BSP, not other political parties. People are aware of what is happening.” This was stated by the leader of the BSP, Mikhail Mikov, in “Hello, Bulgaria” on Nova TV . According to him, the truth is that there is no other party that has proposed alternative policies for this year and a half, except BSP. “Not only an alternative to the rulers, but an alternative to the politics that is ruining more and more Bulgarians. Because in our country 47% of people live in poverty, Bulgaria’s population is decreasing by 48,000 people and there is only one stratum around the government that is good – the people who have access to the European funds”, Mikov explained.
People understand what we do. That is why confidence in the BSP is growing
The BSP leader also said that the left had many initiatives, some of which were implemented. He indicated the proposal of the socialists – to implement short-term measures to deal with the demographic catastrophe and change the negative trend in our country. It was accepted by the rulers, but nothing was done about it. “Another proposal of ours, accepted in the first reading, is to allocate more funds for the parents of children with disabilities, for which Prime Minister Borisov was jumping around a lot,” commented Mikov. He recalled other initiatives of the socialists in the field of tax policy – the desire of the left to introduce fairer taxation through progressive income taxation, as well as a differentiated VAT rate for children’s goods.
“People are increasingly understanding what we do. An indicator of this is that all the studies since the New Year show that trust in the BSP is growing, in contrast to the other parties, where it is falling”, the leader of the Socialists was categorical.
When asked about what is happening in the BSP before the 49th Congress of the Left, the socialist stated that it is important that the discussions take place inside the party, at the intra-party forums. “The discussion and politics should be conducted before the delegates of the Congress, who will make their decisions, because the rest is an attraction for the audience,” Mikov said.
Parties must fill the ballot boxes with policies that people support – that’s the only way citizens will vote
“BSP is against turning a right into an obligation, burdening it with bureaucratic burdens. This will not restore people’s trust in politics and politicians,” he argues for the BSP’s position on mandatory voting for Bulgarian citizens. According to him, the parties should fill the ballot boxes with policies that people approve and support. Only in this way will they be motivated to vote.
The proposal to limit the number of polling stations abroad to 50 and the separation of EU member states from other countries, Mikov commented as follows: “There are people who live in America, in Russia, they are also not in the EU. Everyone should be treated equally. Our position, when we were the majority in the National Assembly and decided these issues, was to ensure maximum opportunities for citizens to vote – at home and abroad. The state must create the conditions for more people to vote”, said the leader of the socialists and asked what the reasons were for limiting the number of sections to exactly 50.
Regarding the subject of the referendum, Mikov stated that the left has a position and it was stated a long time ago. “Let the referendum be held, there are reasons for it, but the reasons for and against must be clearly explained to the people,” said Mihail Mikov.
The leader of the left added that it is not right for other countries to interfere in the political processes in the country, especially by holding elections. Mikov recalled that it was Prime Minister Borisov who shut down the commission that was investigating the interference of other countries in Bulgaria’s politics. “Apparently there was something that he wanted to cover,” the leader of the Socialists was categorical.
On the occasion of the visit of BSP representatives to Russia, Mikov stated that the party’s communication with the Russian Federation is good. “We signed an agreement with “Just Russia” – a party that is a member of the Socialist International. I also held meetings in the Russian Duma, the Council of Federations, and the Foreign Ministry. But more importantly, relations with this country must develop, because key politicians such as our president, our foreign minister, and the minister of defense are doing everything possible to spoil Bulgaria’s relations with Russia,” stressed Mikhail Mikov.
