Professor Răzvan Cherecheş, a public health specialist, claims that the lockdown measures for unvaccinated people in Austria should also be applied in Romania, a country where the vaccination rate is much lower than there.
“Starting tomorrow (Monday), Austria has decided to lockdown for unvaccinated people for the next 10 days. The fine for violating the lockdown is 1,450 Euro. Austria has a vaccination rate of 65%, considered too low to prevent the overcrowding of intensive care units. Unfortunately, the vaccination rate is much lower in our country, so we also need more severe restrictions, if we want to avoid hundreds of deaths a day “, commented on his Facebook page, Cherecheș.
A lockdown was imposed on Austria on Monday for people not vaccinated against COVID-19, who will be able to leave their homes just for essential shopping, to go to work or to the doctor.
However, unvaccinated citizens will still be allowed to go for a walk at any time of the day, in order to maintain their physical and mental health.
There will be random checks, and non-compliances will be fined up to 1,450 euros.
Against the background of the growing epidemic wave, Austria reported 11,552 new cases of infection on Sunday, and the seven-day incidence rate reached almost 850 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The lockdown measures will be applied for an initial period of 10 days.
