Yesterday the working group Media-Analysis eV (agma) published the online audio usage figures for the 4th quarter of 2022. The offers shown in the ma 2023 IP Audio I recorded an average of around 517.2 million sessions per month during this period, an increase of six percent compared to the previous quarter. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, there is also an increase of six percent.
The simulcasts of the radio stations were able to reach around 285 million sessions on average per month in the fourth quarter of 2022, an increase of eight percent compared to the previous quarter. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, there was an increase of five percent. Simulcast radio programs with advertising accounted for around 125.4 million sessions in the fourth quarter of 2022 (+5 percent compared to the previous quarter).
By far the most listened-to online audio service in Germany is Spotify in the final quarter of the year. The international music streaming and audio platform has an average of around 185.5 million sessions per month with its free offer in the fourth quarter of 2022.
WDR 2 is back in the lead for simulcast streams, followed by SWR3 in second place. Deutschlandfunk holds third place ahead of 1Live and Antenne Bayern.
In a year-on-year comparison, Radio Handcart (+98%) and Toggo Radio (+82%) are the biggest climbers. RTL’s children’s and family radio, launched in 2020, has already reached 14th place in the overall ranking of the individual channels in the fourth quarter of 2022. Radio Bollerwagen ranks directly behind them in 15th place. If you look at the private radio stations in isolation, this means third and fourth place in this category behind Antenne Bayern and Hit Radio FFH.
A brief look at some “newer” programs that can also be heard in parallel in the 2nd DAB+ Bundesmux. The classic radio offshoot Beats Radio records 405,847 sessions on average per month (+13% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2022). In the 4th quarter of 2022, the nostalgia web radio combo had just over 216,000 sessions on average per month, meaning that the ENERGY offshoot recorded an increase of eleven percent compared to the previous quarter. The Absolut Radio webcast combo reaches around 3.93 million sessions in the average month (+10% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2022).
