WD My Book NAS are remotely deleted, updated

Author: WD

Western Digital My Book NAS users around the world report mysterious reset of your devices. All data will be deleted at the same time. Unlike NAS QNAP or Synology, these devices do not have open ports to the Internet, and remote access is handled through WD servers.

Therefore, the WD servers themselves may have been compromised. However, the official statement rejected it. So far, it is not known exactly how the approach occurs. Users should disconnect their devices from the network.

Updates: vulnerability is behind the problem CVE-2021–18742 remote code execution via /api/1.0/rest/language_configuration. All you need to do is know the IP address of the device. WD continues recommends disconnecting the device.
