In Friday’s race, she showed clear shooting and reached the finish line in 21:19.7 minutes. Hanna Öbergová from Sweden finished second, 2.2 seconds behind compatriot Linn Persson (+26.2 s).
Slovakian Paulína Bátovská Fialková finished in 25th place with a loss of 1:34.4 minutes after two mistakes in the standing position.
Herrmannová-Wicková claimed her seventh medal from the world championships, including the fourth in individual disciplines. She previously only won gold in the pursuit at the 2019 WC in Östersund. “In the beginning, I was really excited when I entered the track, I couldn’t lower my pulse. The fact that I can conjure up such a race at the home WC is indescribable.” said Herrmannová-Wicková for ZDF, who became the first German sprint winner at the World Championships since Magdalena Neunerová. She also won on home soil in 2012.
Paulína Bátovská Fialková started the race excellently. She ran onto the track with number five and completed the first lap quickly. She didn’t miss out on the shooting range either and consistently ranked first. Even in the second round, she was able to run, but then she couldn’t do the standing. The Slovakian representative missed the first target, did not find a rhythm and missed the fourth as well. With two penalty rounds, she could not count on a place among the best, and in the end it was enough for her to take 25th position.
“I came there knocked out, maybe I tried to run a little over the limit after the zero on the lie-up. And there was also nervousness. My stand didn’t fit as well as in the relay, I’m very sorry for the mistakes. I messed it up. The conditions weren’t bad today, it was a little windier and that’s why I spent more time lying down, but I managed it. But not in the standing position. It won’t be difficult to find motivation for the fighter. I’ll have a lot to catch up on and I’ll try to give it my all.” said Bátovská Fialková for RTVS.
Her sister Ivone did not succeed in the layup, in which she missed twice, she did not drop one target even in the standing position, she took 47th place (+2:22.1 min) and will present herself in the fighter. “It’s a shame about that layup. I had a pretty strong wind, but I have to evaluate it with the coaches, whether it was a mistake with the wind. The layup works for me, it’s a shame that I messed up there.” she said. Mária Remeňová finished with two mistakes and a deficit of 3:10.4 min in 70th place, Júlia Machyniaková came to the finish line last in 95th position (+5:43.6/3).
The championship continues on Saturday with the men’s sprint, and on Sunday both pursuit races are on the program.
