Dr. Samia Abdel Rahman, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geriatric Medicine and Health at Ain Shams University, told “Youm7” that there are some ways to prevent Alzheimer’s disease or reduce the chances of infection, and these methods can be followed from an early age until they bear fruit and enhance memory health.

She explained that one of the methods of prevention is to examine the blood circulation of the feet, because insufficient blood circulation to the feet is one of the problems that indicate insufficient blood circulation to the brain, and with a simple examination by a doctor using x-rays, you can confirm the condition of the blood vessels, whether there is hardening of the arteries or not, and the chances of developing Alzheimer’s.

She pointed out the necessity of eating foods rich in antioxidants that slow down the deterioration of the brain and protect against Alzheimer’s. Examples of these foods include colorful vegetables and fruits, raisins and blueberries.

She warned against saturated fats that affect the brain, such as: fast, fried, and processed foods, adding that new information should be learned, such as: a language or a skill to prevent Alzheimer’s disease, because learning prevents brain shrinkage and helps improve memory.

She stressed the importance of social communication with others because it helps the brain strengthen connections and improve memory.
