Barrett-Jackson will auction the popular 1976 AMC Pacer from the movie “Wayne’s World” at its sale in Scottsdale, Arizona, from January 22 to 30.
If “Wayne’s World” quite simply launched the career of Mike Myers (future Austin Powers), Penelope Spheeris’ film also contributed to the fame of the little AMC Pacer, a vehicle with original shapes and equipment (at least in the film) who were no less so.
This particular example, known as the “Garth Mobile” (“Garth’s car”), features the character of Garth Algar in the film, played by Dana Carvey, the best friend of Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers). The on-screen appearances of this AMC Pacer are almost comical, and it is moreover at the center of a memorable scene where the two friends, accompanied by three other companions, sing at the top of their voices, the “Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
This chassis produced in 1976 and which was modified for the needs of the 1992 film, is as it was seen in the feature film except for a few details. It has kept its “Baby Blue” livery enhanced with flame patterns, has a blue cabin, and it has kept its cup dispenser as well as the one delivering liquorice. Among the notable modifications, we note the addition of a stereo and more functional speakers than the original equipment.
This AMC Pacer has changed owners several times since 1992, and it was even presented at auction in 2016 by Barrett-Jackson: it then found a buyer for $37,400 (€32,760). Can she do better this time? The answer at the end of the month.
