Wayne Rooney take a stance on the offer of coaching Everton. The 36-year-old man refused to gush The Toffees.
According to The Athletic’s report, Rooney admitted that he was contacted by Everton on Friday (28/1/2022), for the possibility of coaching, replacing the sacked Rafael Benitez. However, Rooney refused.
“Everton approached my agent and asked me to be interviewed for the job,” Rooney said.
“But I turned it down. I believed I would be a Premier League manager and I was ready for it 100 per cent. But I have a job at Derby, which is important to me,” he said. Wayne Rooney.
Currently, Rooney is still coaching Derby County. Ex-player Manchester United, Everton, DC United, and Derby County has coached Derby since last season.
After being rejected by Rooney, Everton reportedly still have two other candidates to replace Benitez. They are Frank Lampard and Vitor Pereira.
Lampard previously had an interview with Everton. Finally, Lampard had coached Chelsea, but was sacked last year.
Temporary Victor Pereira already received rejection from fans Everton. Supporters criticized him for wanting to be coached by Frank Lampard.
