Wayne Rooney fired from Birmingham with controversial Peaky Blinders reference

Commentator from the English station didn’t like the reference to the series

Wayne Rooney was fired this Tuesday from Birmingham’s technical command, after having managed just two wins in 15 games in the Championship. The ‘BBC’ published a tweet announcing his dismissal, making reference to the series Peaky Blinders. However, he ended up deleting it after Gary Lineker, an English television commentator, expressed displeasure at the allusion to the series, which portrays the criminal organization formed after the end of the First World War in Birmingham.

“By order of the Peaky Blinders, Wayne Rooney was fired from Birmingham”, wrote the BBC, in a post that was accompanied by a photograph of the former Manchester United player dressed as Tommy Shelby, who is the protagonist of the series.

“Delete this,” Gary Lineker wrote in the comments. The tweet was quickly deleted.
