Wayanad Tragedy; Five organs received today from Chaliyar; The inquest will continue tomorrow

Five more body parts were found today in the search conducted in Chaliyar after the Wayanad landslide. 15 days after the landslide, 80 dead bodies and 172 body parts were recovered from Chaliyar. A total of 252 including the present one have been found from different parts of Chaliyar. It includes the bodies of 41 men, 32 women, three boys and 4 girls, and the other 172 body parts.

Those found are being sent to Nilambur District Hospital. Of these, 247 have completed a post-mortem. 237 were taken to Wayanad and three were handed over to their relatives. 7 body parts were sent for DNA testing. It was decided to continue the search for the next few days.

A team of experts arrived in Wayanad today to survey the areas affected by the Wayanad landslide. A five-member team appointed by the State Disaster Management Authority conducted the survey in Smalimattam, Mundakai, Churalmala and Attamala districts. The team also visited the places designated by the government for townships to find out if it is possible to live in the areas affected by the disaster.

An expert committee was also established to organize temporary rehabilitation for those currently living in the camp. For this, the Department of Local Self-Government has identified 41 buildings and the Department of Public Works has identified 24 buildings. These 65 properties are ready for occupancy. In addition to this, 34 buildings that can be used after repairs have been identified for temporary rehabilitation. Various local organizations in the area have also identified 286 houses that can be used for rent.

But it was decided to find rental houses in six local government bodies namely Meppadi, Moopainad, Vythiri, Kalpatta, Ambalavayal and Muttil. The committee will investigate whether it is possible to live in the buildings found and whether household appliances are necessary.

The Government has published guidance on rent. Harrison Malayalam Company has announced that accommodation will be arranged for 102 employees. The committee will examine the facilities of these places and will give a report as soon as possible. A detailed account will be prepared for temporary rehabilitation.

A team led by Iain Mathai, a senior scientist at the Center for Geosciences, has been hired to carry out the study and submit a proposal. At the same time, the process of recovering the lost documents for those living in the relief camps will continue until today. The State IT Mission is leading the process to retrieve the documents.
