The producer Wax Tailor had accustomed us to a more colorful palette. The visual of his 6th album immediately catches the eye, reflecting the dark elegance of “The shadow of their suns”. To compose these 13 new titles, this sound sculptor who has no equal in creating images, offered himself the luxury of time. “Time to observe the light from the shadows, the whirlwind of life, its excesses, its excesses and its symbolic violence”.
If the ingredients remain the same – a mix of samples, scratching, instruments, vocals, in a very cinematic atmosphere – the whole is very rhythmic here, less melancholy and atmospheric than usual. Very hip-hop also; and contrasted, between shadow and light, voices of the past and futuristic sounds.
Eight guests
In this sound feature film, we meet rock legend Mark Lanegan (on “Just a candle”), Del the Funky Homosapien (rapper, notably within Gorillaz), D Smoke (rising star of US rap), Rosemary Standley (Moriarty singer), Mr LIF, Yugen Blakrok (South African rap figure revealed on the “Black Panther” soundtrack alongside Kendrick Lamar and Vince Staples), Boog Brown (icon of the Detroit hip hop scene), Afro-Caribbean singer Adeline (Cee Lo Green, Afropunk). Also with the voice of the late Gil Scott-Heron, American musician and poet committed to the black cause, in particular.
Note that the tour, scheduled for November and December, should go through Brest (Saturday November 6 to The Carène) and Rennes, in particular.
