Care facilities in the city of Freiburg have so far been lucky / tightened visiting rules.
The second corona wave is also sweeping into Freiburg’s retirement homes. However, it is not raging there like it is elsewhere. Even compared to the numbers in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, the infections in Freiburg’s homes are still comparatively low. The virus is circulating in six out of 23 inpatient facilities in the city, according to the city home inspectorate. The health department speaks of seven facilities.
.
In only two of the municipal nursing homes, several residents and employees are affected. The home supervisor does not provide any information on how many there are. She also keeps the names of the homes to herself. Furthermore, one employee each tested positive in two other facilities and one resident is still in quarantine as a precaution in an inpatient care facility. “Compared to the surrounding districts, this can be seen as a relatively minor outbreak for Freiburg,” says Michael van Megeren-Lunz from home supervision. However, he adds, this is only a snapshot “which does not provide any indication of a prognosis or tendency”.
There are currently two confirmed corona infections in the Augustinum, a senior citizens’ residence in Freiburg-St. George. However, this does not appear in the statistics of home supervision, because unlike in inpatient care facilities, the residents there do not live in residential groups, but have their own apartment. Both infections were found in the hospital where the two residents were staying. In the meantime, however, they are back in the Augustinum, said Bettina Dobe, deputy press spokeswoman for the Augustinum Group. You are in quarantine at home. There, Dobe continues, “they are provided with special protective equipment by specially trained employees”.
At the Haslacher Erlenhof, an employee who works in one of the living areas tested positive for the corona virus last Tuesday. Sophie Busse, partner of the facility, says that the first symptoms appeared on Monday. The employee had himself tested on the same day. The entire living area has been in quarantine since the positive test result. And, of course, tests have been carried out there in the meantime, so Busse, both the residents and the staff. The results of the tests are not yet available.
Fortunately, Corona has not yet arrived elsewhere: In the Rieselfelder Pro Seniore Residenz, for example, in the Wichernhaus of the Evangelical City Mission Freiburg or in the homes of the AWO District Association Baden, the Emmi-Seeh-Heim and the senior center Am Zollhof. The four nursing homes of the foundation administration are also currently corona-free. In mid-October, a resident in one of the homes, in Haus Heiliggeist, tested positive. That was her last case, confirms Yvonne Hügele, who is responsible for public relations at the foundation administration.
Even where there is no Corona, the situation is tense: Although a lot is being done to avoid infections, you also know that you have been lucky so far, says Peter Müller, press spokesman for the nationwide home operator Pro Seniore.
With Christmas – a time when a lot of visitors come and go in the facilities – coping with the situation should become even more of a gamble than before. Then there are the increasing numbers of infections. You can still visit. Just yesterday, the Ministry of Social Affairs tightened the visiting rules: Visits are now only possible with an FFP2 mask or a negative antigen test. In some homes, wearing the FFP2 mask is already common practice.
