Wave of violence among teenagers | Inland

“The part that ends up in the criminal path is getting younger and is also increasingly violent. I’m really worried about this. It has gone from threatening and swearing to physical violence with more and more weapons ”, says mayor Franc Weerwind in an interview with De Telegraaf.

This year, 65 underage teenagers in Almere were already identified as suspects of violent street robberies, mainly of their peers. That is twice as many as in the same period last year. Since the beginning of 2018, nearly three hundred twelve to eighteen-year-olds have been arrested for violent cases.

The municipality has now launched a campaign against violence and a project to prevent young teenagers from being recruited by heavy, organized drug organizations. The problem is not limited to this eighth largest city in the Netherlands.
