Wave of reforms: remembering the painful bloodbath of 1984 | AlMomento.net

THE AUTHOR is a journalist. He resides in Santo Domingo.

As the Government of President Luis Abinader and the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has decided against all odds to promote a wave of institutional reforms under the argument that they cannot be postponed and necessary for the country, I am obliged as a citizen to make some clarifications. .

The first thing I want to raise and ask the national actors who are involved in the formulation and presentation of that package of reforms that we all know, is if it is truly true that they, together with President Luis Abinader, are motivated by the urgent need. to promote these reforms or is it due to pressure from international financial organizations that practically forces them.

And don’t come to me with the political and demagogue story that this is a sovereign country that no one can impose agendas of any kind, because here we all know that that is not true, not a finger is moved here, nor are crucial decisions made but They have the blessing of the United States Department of State.

I ask for an explanation, because I have received information that the Dominican State has taken a comfortable seat in the new wave of reform, fundamentally, the tax or fiscal reform by mandate, suggestion or recommendation of financial entities such as the World Bank (WB). , Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and not because of the necessity of the aforementioned reform.

To show a button, it is a mandate, for example in this reform project, the brutal increase in the (IPI) which is nothing more than the Real Estate Property Tax, which establishes an increase of between 0.50% and 0.75 per year. .

There are other mandates and recommendations that are contained in the information that I received in relation to the wave of reforms and the intentions of these international organizations, which for reasons of space in this media it will not be possible for me to present.

Finally, I want to make it clear that not everything that comes from these organizations is bad, no, I do not want that to be understood, what I do want to remember is that due to a similar recommendation from those same international organizations in April 1984 this country attended a painful bloodbath. God save us.
