New Premier League guys Watford are reportedly interested in a summer move for young Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah but face stiff competition for his signing.
The Hornets have immediately returned to the top flight after finishing second in the Championship. Norwich claimed the spoils of the second division and the duo will join play-off winners Brentford in England’s first division next season. All three clubs know that they will need to get stronger to compete with the big boys.
And, with that in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them do their business early in the transfer window. Watford is looking for a new striker and Nketiah He’s the man manager Xisco wants, according to The Mirror.
After moving up through the youth ranks at Chelsea, he moved to Arsenal in 2015 to complete his apprenticeship. The Londoner made his senior debut in September 2017 and has enjoyed 65 starts in all Gunners competitions.
Yet he is nothing more than a team player at the Emirates, with just four starts out of 17 league appearances in 2020-2021. Mikel Arteta has tended to use it sparingly from the bench and only scored two goals in the Premier League.
The former England Under-21 ace enjoyed more action in Europe, with eight appearances and three goals in the Europa League. But it seems his days in North London may be numbered.
Nketiah is entering the final year of his contract and could walk away for nothing next summer. Arsenal will not want that to happen and therefore must act soon to either deliver a new contract or sell it.
The latter seems more likely and there is no shortage of suitors.
Nketiah in demand for the summer change
West Ham United is in the looking for a new striker since they have yet to replace Sebastien Haller. He left for Ajax in January and David Moyes couldn’t find a similar replacement in the winter window.
He recruited Jesse Lingard yielded and the rest is history, with English returning to its best form. But it looks like he will return to Manchester United for next season.
The Hammers are aiming for a genuine forward and linked up with the Arsenal star in January. Nothing materialized and it appeared the capital’s team wanted around £ 20 million for the former Leeds loan star.
It is believed that a similar amount will be needed to secure an agreement on the off-season line. Brighton could also be involved, as reports claim Arsenal want Yves bissouma.
And they are said to be preparation for us Nketiah as peso in any agreement for Mali international.
