PCP is a common occurrence on the Sun. It tends to occur more frequently near the anniversary of the solar cycle (about every 11 years) known as the Solar Maximum, as do other plasma-related solar phenomena.
PCP formation is similar to solar flares. It is the result of the unevenness of the Sun’s magnetic field. This makes plasma, an ionized gas, Ejection from the surface of the Sun. For PCP, it usually occurs near the poles of the Sun. It is possible that extreme plasma velocities might be involved in this process, however, astronomers need to do more research to determine the exact reason.
Solar physicists are interested in the phenomenon of solar plasma plumes.
