Water on Earth Turns Out to Come from the Sun, How come?

JAKARTA – Recent research says that some of the water on earth comes from Sun . Hydrogen ions from the sun’s particles create dust grains and are carried by asteroids that hit Earth.

Professor Phil Bland, director of the Center for Space Science and Technology at Curtin University, said scientists had long been confused about the exact source of water on Earth.

“Earth is very rich in water compared to other planets in the Solar System, but where does all this water come from? SCI News, Friday (10/12/2021).

Previous theories suggested that water was brought to Earth in the final stages of the formation of a type c asteroid. But testing through the asteroid’s isotopes showed the water was no match for that found on Earth.

“Our research shows the wind Sun creates water on the surface of these tiny dust grains and this isotope lighter water likely provides the rest of the water on Earth,” he explained.

Using atomic probe tomography, Professor Bland and colleagues analyzed olivine grains from the near-Earth S-type asteroid Itokawa, samples of which were collected by JAXA’s Hayabusa spacecraft and returned to Earth in 2010.

Using advanced atomic probe tomography, scientists saw the presence of water in the dust of the asteroid Itikowa. If enlarged, the content is equivalent to 20 liters of water for every one cubic meter of stone.
