According to the data of the regional ministry, 35,000 people in our country are affected by the lack and regime of drinking water. There are more and more protests by the residents of the waterless areas.

Bulgaria is not among the waterless regions, we have enough water, but because of wrong management decisions and transfer of responsibilities for years dozens of settlements in our country are suffering.

According to data from the regional ministry, in July of this year, water supply was disrupted in 12 districts.

In the summer, almost all villages in Pernik municipality are on water regime. The only exception is the villages whose water supply network draws water from the Studena dam. Three villages in the municipality are under extremely severe conditions – water is released every one or two days. In others, they rely only on the water from the well in the yard.

According to the municipal administration of Pernik, the main reason for the lack of water is the old water supply network, with over 60% leaks and reduced flow of the villages’ own water sources. The solution to the problem is urgent repair of the plumbing network.

“We are investing serious funds from our own budget in replacing the water supply network this year – over BGN 5 million in different parts of the city and various villages on the territory of the municipality. But it is right that the water supply company also implements some adequate measures in its investment program “, said Stefan Krastev, deputy mayor of the municipality of Pernik.

The picture is no different in the Veliko Tarnovo region. 20 settlements here are on water regime for the same reasons as in Perniško. In Draganovo, for more than 10 days, water did not flow from the taps of the people who live in the highest parts of the village, and they organized a series of protests

Today, a partial replacement of the water supply began in Draganovo, which will partially solve the problem of waterlessness

“Around 250 million will be allocated throughout the country to all the municipalities that have ready projects, which if they have the project ready, will be able to solve a serious problem. This is again a campaign, piecemeal. We need an overall vision and a change in the way on which the projects are financed, so that there can be a comprehensive solution to this issue,” said Ognyan Stoyanov, deputy regional governor of Veliko Tarnovo.

According to industry experts, in order to replace the old water transmission network in the country, nearly BGN 3 billion is needed. That is why, at this stage, no one dares to say when the huge problem with aridity in our country will be solved.
