ROME (ITALPRESS) – Investments in the modernization of water networks, the resources dedicated to the sector of the National Resilience Plan, the rules for water management in the various economic sectors and the industrial and regulatory prospects. These are some of the topics at the center of the conference in the “Roma Locomotiva d’Italia” series entitled “Water=Development” organized by Acea and Il Tempo and which saw the presence, among others, of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matthew Salvini; by the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin; by the CEO of Acea, Fabrizio Palermo. “Water has been a fundamental element in the history of the development of this country – said Palermo -. And still today water represents a key to development, above all industrial. A large part of industry depends on water cycles and having a good supply of water is fundamental not only for the human issue but also for everything related to agriculture. Investing in water from an infrastructure point of view means collecting rainwater where possible and means managing the transport of the resource, which must increasingly be transport on a national basis”. “Today we have national gas and electricity networks, but we don’t have them on water networks. This means that we have water available in some areas and at the same time we don’t have it in others. Having an integrated transport network becomes fundamental at this point – added Palermo -. The third issue concerning infrastructures is that relating to reuse. Reusing water through purification, and today there are state-of-the-art systems in this sense, and managing it for different purposes, including agricultural and other purposes, is essential. Today – he underlined – Italy exploits only 4% in terms of reuse, we could easily reach 20% and this would change the national water balance”.
Minister Salvini underlines how in “10 months we are making up for some lost time, first of all on new infrastructures. I am often asked if we will spend the resources of the Pnrr destined for water, I say yes, indeed, we are able to spend even 1 billion more. The issue of water is so important that not only will we spend all the resources – he assures -, but if they were left over from other expenditure items we could spend even more. On the subject of water, I am convinced that it is necessary to rationalize, there cannot be thousands of subjects working on it. Water is life but you don’t create it and for this reason we are trying to spend these 4 billion well”, concludes the deputy prime minister.
The Minister of the Environment, Pichetto Fratin, explains that “we have a water system made up of around 2,400 managers. The path started is of the integrated areas, we should get to have a hundred managers, who will therefore have the robustness to start a dialogue for a system that does not have 40% losses. We should get to have a hundred territorial scope ”, he concludes.
