Water and electricity were cut off, more police deployed along the border and action against peasant leaders

New Delhi: Police have stepped up action against farmers’ leaders in the Republic Day violence. Lookout notices were issued against 20 farmer leaders. Their passports will be confiscated, Delhi Police sources said. There are indications from the border that the police will take further action. As part of this, more police were deployed.

There are indications that the police are moving to evacuate the farmers from the protest site. An emergency meeting of the Delhi Police is in progress under the current circumstances. The meeting will be attended by senior officials including the Commissioner of Police and the Intelligence IG.

Meanwhile, a group of people staged a protest demanding the removal of the farmers. But the farmers’ organizations are adamant that they will resist. Rakesh Tikayat said that he was adamant that he would not vacate the land and would go ahead with the strike. Rakesh Tikait said the water and electricity supply to the protest site had been cut off and if it was not restored, he would march to the police stations in Gazipur.
