WatchOS 9: good news for autonomy

Since its inception, the autonomy of the Apple Watch has not convinced users. According to Mark Gurmanthe new watchOS 9 update would bring better autonomy.

All Apple Watch users know: it’s hard to last a full day. Charging in the morning or in the evening remains an immutable ritual for holders of a connected watch from the Apple brand. WatchOS 9 would be about to improve this autonomy a little more with a more efficient autonomy management mode.

Extended reserve mode

Although known since the first models of Apple Watch, the energy reserve mode would be about to be extended. This new standby mode would allow users to use some features while extending the watch’s battery life.

As a reminder, the power reserve mode allows the watch to continue to display the time and to use very limited functions in order to give the watch a longer life.

The rumor of this power reserve mode remains to be taken with a grain of salt, because Apple did not talk about it during the last WWDC. The Bloomberg journalist has been talking about it for a few months now in these various columns.

Material exclusivity

This new energy reserve mode could also be exclusive. The latest rumor of an “extreme” Apple Watch combined with this better battery life makes perfect sense. Indeed, even for a Sunday sportsman, the autonomy of the current smartwatch does not allow extensive use of GPS.

WatchOS 9 is currently available in beta mode for developers and should be presented at Apple’s next keynote later in September.
