WATCH ⟩ members of the Latvian Farmers’ Union gather at the congress; Lemberg’s name appears only once

The Congress of the Farmers’ Union in Jelgava Palace ended on a high note, as last fall the political force managed to return to the government after five years spent in deep opposition, obtaining the portfolios of four ministers and the position of Speaker of the Saeima.

The speaker herself expressed her satisfaction with this when opening the congress.

The party leader promises to correct the mistakes made by the previous government regarding the administrative territorial reform, while the Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze criticized the opposition National Union from the stage, which allegedly made a series of mistakes during the ministry.

Cooperation partners of the Farmers’ Union also came to welcome the participants of the Congress. “Today I have come from Ventspils to greet you all from our, your cooperation party, partner “Latvijai und Ventspils”, and especially greetings from the chairman of our party, Aivars Lembergs! It must be said that the cooperation, which has been going on since 2006, has been successful,” said Didzis Ošieneks, a member of the “Latvijai und Ventspilij” party.

This was the only time Lemberg’s name was heard from the stage.

On the other hand, LTV reports that Viktors Valainis was nominated for the position of European Commissioner at the Congress of the Farmers’ Union.
