As singers and dancers from all over Latvia cannot gather in Riga this time, Māra Sleja will go to five historical regions of Latvia in five series of documentary stories. Together with Māra, the symbolic flag of the youth song and dance festival will also travel.
Māra’s path begins on the Grand Stage of Mežaparks and in the first series of documentary stories leads to the land of the Blue Lakes, where a significant number of folklore groups, minority groups, choirs and folk dance groups live. They have been preparing for the festival both remotely and in small groups for a year now and are now ready to put on folk costumes and continue the tradition at home.
The first stop is the very center of the world or Upīte, where Mara is danced by the folklore group “Upīte”. As amateur theaters are an integral part of the Song and Dance Festival, Māra visits the Theater Studio of Medņeva People’s House. Its students show training methods and games that help to give gorgeous emotions to every performance. “Other Song Festival” also stops at Aglona Basilica, where the Aglona Basilica Choir School Girls’ Choir moves Māra to tears.
Daugavpils, on the other hand, surprises with its richness of genres and traditions. The Song Festival is an important moment in the life of dancers both for the young people of the hip-hop studio “Stoptime” and for the Daugavpils Secondary School of Technology – lyceum dance group “Balaguri”, which dances different nations with an open soul. They have prepared a special Ukrainian dance premiere for the audience.
The author and producer of the idea of the documentary story series “Other Song Festival” is Dzintars Dreibergs, the director is Intars Rešetins. The producer of the program is Ilze Falkovska, executive producer: Krista Sondore, cinematographers – Uldis Jancis, Jānis Šēnbergs, Raitis Valainis and Artis Pārups, cinematograph operators: Arvīds Ceļmalis, Nauris Būda, drone cinematographers: Gvido Puķe and Āris Muitnieks, film studio “Cult film “.
At the end of September, the next series of the program, which will be dedicated to the Song and Dance Festival in Zemgale, will have its premiere. The cycle of documentary stories can also be viewed on LMT Smart TV, in the application LMT Straume and on the Internet. It can also be seen there documentary “Sunflower. A Different March of the Song Festival”, which tells about the course of the festival throughout Latvia.
