Experienced theater director and actor Mārcis Lācis publishes a trailer for his debut feature film Revolution, which tells about the crisis in the dark behind-the-scenes world of theater, revealing the emotional tension between actors and the struggle for self-esteem. The film is scheduled to premiere on February 25 at the Great Kristaps Film Festival, and will be screened at theaters and special screenings shortly thereafter.
At the heart of the atypical surreal comedy of Latvian cinema are the leading tandem of the city’s Small Theater, Ivars (Ivars Krasts) and Armands (Armands Bergis), who are working on the last new production of the French Revolution of the season under the direction of a young and ambitious director. A week before the premiere, Armands, a favorite of the audience and critics, receives an enticing offer to continue his career at the Bolshoi Theater. Surrendered by his best friend and colleague, Ivars is gradually losing touch with reality, bringing his theater closer to the inevitable catastrophe.
“Revolution” invites the viewer to laugh and experience the main image of the inner revolution, evoking emotions similar to those of the characters. Experiments with cinematic language and techniques create a peculiar closeness – the film consists of 14 long, continuous shots in real time, and the viewer is drawn wherever the camera takes it. Such a complex technical solution – the internal editing of the frame in the filming area – is a serious test for the entire film crew, because the slightest mistake means returning to the beginning of a long frame.
The creative team of “Revolution” is convinced of the mutual synergy, working together in other projects – Lācis is also one of the two main actors in the brothers Ābeļi’s feature film “Restless Minds” (operator – Mārcis Ābele), which will have its premiere in cinemas on In turn, the composer of the “Revolution” Toms Aunins in “Restless Minds” will be the second leading actor.
The director and screenwriter of the film “Revolution” are Mārcis Lācis, cameraman and editing director Mārcis Ābele, producer Raitis Ābele, composer Toms Auniņš, chief artist Aivars Žukovskis, sound director Jānis Zaneribs, executive producer Sintija Brakša, costume designer
The main roles are Ivars Krasts, Armands Bergis, Līva Lilija Graņica, Rolands Beķeris, Anete Strode, Agris Krapivņickis.
The film will premiere on February 25, 2022 at the Splendid Palace Cinema.
The film made by Tritone Studio is funded by the State Cultural Capital Foundation’s target program KultūrElpa and the National Film Center. The film is distributed by Spectrum.
