Watch out for your messages, WhatsApp is the target of massive hacking

There are some text messages that we would rather never receive. At the moment, it is on the WhatsApp application that you have to pay attention: as the site spotted Phonandroid, relaying information from the British magazine Which ?, specializing in consumer protection, a massive hacking attempt has been underway since the very end of March.

How does this hacking work within the reach of SMS? First, users are given a login code for two-factor authentication. Thus, if you receive one without having claimed one, you are probably the victim of this hacking attempt, and you should especially not respond or click on the link, inserted in the same message.

A few minutes after the first SMS, a second arrives. This one comes from a contact present on the phone of the hacking attempt, and says this: “Hello, sorry I sent you a 6-digit code by SMS by mistake, can you forward it to me? please? It’s urgent. ” It is important not to respond to this message: sending it means that this contact has been hacked and that you are the next target.
