Watch out for the UN: the Art for Iran protests in New York

With an oversized eye on the United Nations, artist Shirin Neshat calls attention to Iran’s protests for democracy and women’s rights in New York. (stock image)

The eye painted on a stairway, along with works by other artists, was recently seen in a park on Roosevelt Island. The work “Offered Eyes” is from 1993. On the other side of the East River, to the south, the main building of the United Nations is clearly visible. The “Eyes on Iran” show is expected to run until the end of the year.

Neshat, who is one of Iran’s most prominent artists, has already drawn attention to the Berlin protests with an oversized banner in front of the main entrance to the New National Gallery.
