The traffic police took over the first ten BMW 5 Series Touring, half of them are classically marked, but the other one is unrecognizable at first glance. A total of seventy will be available. They are mainly supposed to patrol the highways.
On Friday afternoon, the police took over the first ten BMW 540i xDrive Touring cars, within the framework of the two agreements they will get a total of 70 cars. Half of the cars are classically marked in the colors of the police, but the other five are unmarked, but with hidden warning sound and radio equipment.
All cars have special equipment for using the right of way, i.e. a special warning sound device and an independent camera system. All ten BMWs are powered by a 245 kW (333 hp) mild-hybrid six-cylinder gasoline engine, have xDrive all-wheel drive, an eight-speed automatic Steptronic transmission and an adaptive chassis.
“I am very pleased that we succeeded in the selection procedure with premium brand cars at a more favorable price than the competition. Highway police officers receive specially equipped vehicles with top driving characteristics and a high level of active and passive safety. I believe that the new vehicles will contribute to increasing traffic safety on of our highways,” said Stratos Auto CEO Martin Strakoš during the handover in the Prosecco showroom.
“An important step for improving the conditions and quality of police work is also the regular replacement of the vehicle fleet. I am glad that the police officers will be able to use such modern, safe and fast vehicles as these ten BMWs in their service,” said Deputy Police President for the Economy Colonel Jaromír Bischof.
“The new BMW vehicles, both in the commercial version and in the version of the Police of the Czech Republic, will be included mainly in the highway departments of the individual regional police directorates and in the nationwide department of the traffic police service, i.e. at the Special Surveillance Department of Bohemia and Moravia,” added the director of the traffic police service, Col. George the Bad.
