Three American presidents stood side by side
The commemorative ceremony for the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives began in New York with a bell ringing and a minute of silence.
The memorial service was held at the Manhattan Memorial, where the twin towers of the World Trade Center, destroyed in al Qaeda’s jihadist attacks, were erected until September 11, 2001, AFP reported.

At exactly 08.46 local time, those present lowered their heads in a minute of silence, on the same day, but 20 years later, after the first hijacked plane hit the north tower.

Relatives of the victims of the attacks honored their memory with flowers and small flags in front of the names of the memorial plaques of the Memorial. People carried portraits of their dead relatives high above their heads.
