The City is preparing to modernize its equipment, in particular to size it up to a population of 42,000 inhabitants.

Eleven million euros. This is what the Lunel wastewater treatment plant site will cost. The latter should start this year. In the meantime, from this February 15, and until March 2, a public inquiry will be launched. The file, consisting of an impact survey exemption and especially the environmental impact study, will be available during the period, either at the town hall or online on the Hérault prefecture website.

In addition, for three half-days, February 16 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., February 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and March 2 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the commissioner-designate, in occurrence Danielle Bernard-Castel, will be on call to collect public comments.

€ 11 million to be financed over four years

The project, awarded to the company SA Sources de Montpellier, aims to modernize the wastewater treatment plant built in 1977, already enlarged and brought up to standard in 1997 and 2002 and currently capable of absorbing wastewater discharges from ‘a population equivalent to 33,000 inhabitants. To manage to absorb a population of 42,000 inhabitants, estimated by 2040, the work will consist in extending the biological treatment of the current equipment, to restructure the sludge line, and to succeed in capturing an over volume of water. rain by creating a compartmentalized storm basin of 2,600 m3.

It should be noted that the 11 M € of estimated works should be partially subsidized by the Water Agency and they will oblige the city to resort to the loan. But this will not be enough, which is the reason why user financing was approved during the vote on the 2021 water and sanitation budget. Concretely, the price of water will increase for four years, by 2.6%. However, at the end of this period, it will remain lower than the national average price, assures the City.
