Waste of Chance, Juventus Hit the Stone

Coach Juventus Thiago Motta he admitted his team’s negligence when they were held 1-1 by Cagliari in continuation series A this season. Instead of chasing more goals, the Bianconeri played safe and kept the lead.

Playing at the Allianz Stadium, Sunday (6/10/2024), the hosts took the lead in the 15th minute through Dusan Vlahovic’s penalty. The 12th shot was scored after Sebastiano Luperto blocked Federico Gatti’s header with his hand in the penalty box.

Cagliari equalized at the end of the second half, only in the 88th minute. As Douglas Luiz fouled Roberto Piccoli in the penalty box, the referee flagged the spot. Razvan Marin as executor successfully captured Michele Di Gregorio.

Throughout the game, Juventus actually appeared to have the upper hand. As well as controlling 74 per cent of the ball, they also had nine shots on target from 21 attempts. But only one goal resulted. Motta pointed out that his team failed to close out the game quickly.

“We controlled the game and had the ball in the first half after scoring the goal, but we shouldn’t have done that. We should have continued the attack,” said Motta to DAZN.

“In the second half, we created several chances, but there was always the feeling that Cagliari could come back.”

“We first took the lead and then kept the score; this is where we need to improve. Every Serie A game is difficult, no matter who the opponent is. Today, “we left gaps for the opponent to come back from. He had trouble killing the game,” explained Motta.

With this result, Juventus entered the international break in third place in the standings. They have collected 13 points, three points behind Napoli who are at the top.
