A short presentation video was enough for them to win the prize for eco-delegate action from the Créteil Academy. Selected from 15 applications from colleges in the academy, the video from the Karl-Marx college in Villejuif highlights “the commitment of the eco-delegates, the link with the 17 sustainable development objectives and the very collective dimension of the project”, sums up Sophie Pons, head of the academic mission Education for sustainable development.
Many projects throughout the year
To the question of the reason for their environmental commitment, the eco-delegates of the Karl-Marx college answer without hesitation. “Ecology is important and we learn to work together,” explains Rafaela, in 3rd grade. “It allows us to set an example for future generations,” replies Youba, also in 3rd grade. All smiles, they evolve in their establishment where plants and flowers green the corridors and the courtyard. “Here, these are tomatoes and flax planted on the occasion of a project during Ecology Day in May”, says Audrey Brizard, English teacher and referent eco-delegates. And projects, they have carried out many, supported by the municipality and several associations.
No less than three races for the environment have been organized by the college this year. The first, which took place in the Hautes Bruyères park, combined orienteering and waste collection. “The goal was to cross physical activity and eco-responsible activity”, specifies Jean Galabert, professor of Physical Education and Sports.
A successful bet since nearly 42 kg of waste was collected. The second race, in partnership with the Lemon Tri association, was an opportunity to “collect corks and give them to the association to manufacture the seats for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”, proudly explains Ayanna, eco-delegate in class. of 6th. Finally, the race with the association Au Bouleau! raised funds to revegetate the college and support responsible agriculture.
A commitment that pays off
“It’s a project that touches on many areas with a cross-functional approach,” explains Sophie Pons. The eco-delegates are the bearers of this dynamic which radiates throughout the entire establishment. Their commitment can even be valued in their school career. “For example for my patent oral, this project is very interesting”, adds Rafaela. Youba, meanwhile, wants to continue his commitment when he enters high school at the start of the school year. According to him, thanks to these projects in favor of the environment, “we also learn about the world”. Very invested in the “media class” system from which his own class benefits, he photographs and films all the projects. “We left a mark with the media class and we hope to inspire other establishments,” explains Jean Galabert.
In this establishment classified as a Priority Education Network (REP), the initiatives of the eco-delegates benefit all the students. Audrey Brizard remembers a beneficial gardening session for a student who was struggling in class. “He has evolved and found a fiber that interests him, so I told him about the horticulture section at Lycée Chérioux (Vitry-sur-Seine) and he was thrilled”. Making fat balls for birds with neighboring kindergarten classes, making recycled paper or even creating informative posters on the environment, the projects are varied and are not about to stop.
