Washington Post mocks absurdity of Belgian toilet rules | Abroad

The absurdity of the Belgian measures around Christmas has not escaped the notice of The Washington Post. The newspaper specifically refers to the information that Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) gave HLN.be. “Only one lucky man will be allowed to go to the toilet, if the government has something to say about it”, the Post said.

The Americans are making a dent about the stipulation that only people with a garden that is accessible from the outside can receive guests there at Christmas. After all, anyone who lives in a terraced house cannot do that, because then visitors would have to walk through the house. However, that privilege is only reserved for the cuddly contact – a word that also caught the attention of The Post and the translation cuddle contact got— who is the only person in the party allowed to use the toilet. The Washington Post also cites a quote from a spokesman for Verlinden in The Brussels Times, who stated that “if you really have to go to the toilet, there is no other option than to return home”.
